Kaiwaikawe ground breaking

The Kaiwaikawe Wind Farm project has officially been launched, and we’re excited to play our part in delivering this infrastructure for Mercury NZ. Our team went along to last week’s ground breaking ceremony, where Mercury Chief Executive Stewart Hamilton and Energy Minister Hon. Simon Watts MP FCA officially launched the $287 million project near Dargaville.
Kaiwaikawe is Northland’s first windfarm and will generate enough renewable electricity to power about 27,000 homes—equivalent to powering the Far North. It will feature the tallest and largest turbines in the country, reaching 206 metres to the top of the rotor blade (the equivalent of two rugby fields).
Our team was there to celebrate, along with Northland MP Grant McCallum, Vestas, ElectroNet Group, landowner Pāmu, Kaipara District Council, Te Roroa, and community members during the ground breaking ceremony.
First generation is expected at Kaiwaikawe in mid-2026, with full generation by the end of 2026.
