Higgins bitumen shipment arrives

latestnews theprospector

The first-ever bitumen shipment independently imported by Higgins has just arrived at Napier Port. 4000 tonnes of bitumen came in on “The Prospector” and was pumped straight into our tanks on the wharf.

National Bitumen Operations Manager Sean Bearsley says, until very recently, our bitumen was imported by Z Energy. However, they’ve decided to exit the market. “This meant we’ve had to take responsibility for the importation ourselves. It’s a new business opportunity for us and builds on our existing role as bitumen supplier to the wider roading industry.”

Around 75% of the bitumen we import will be used internally and the remaining 25% will be sold to other companies. We’ll be receiving around five shipments a year with 4,000-7,000 tonnes of hot liquid bitumen in each shipment.
