Work is a big part of our lives, but what happens outside of work is just as important.

That’s why we offer industry-leading parental leave, flexible work practices, and family support systems such as free counselling. We care for our employees at all stages of their life and work journeys.

Fletcher Building Employee Educational Fund

For anyone wanting help to get to the next stage of their career, we have a very well-funded Employee Educational Fund (EEF). Permanent employees (have been employed for at least six months) of Fletcher Construction, their partners, and dependant family members can apply to the EEF to fund career-related tuition and programmes.

The EEF also supports tamariki. School-age children can access funding to take extra academic tuition or personal development programmes (EEF can provide financial assistance to cover 75% of programme fees for one week), and to continue their studies when they leave high school. This is offered to our employees as part of the wider Fletcher Building business. For further information visit www.fbeducation.com.

"I used the EEF to get a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies. Alongside the knowledge learnt in class I have strengthened my ability to give equal attention to multiple projects, and the support I received from Fletcher Construction has been invaluable. I love applying the knowledge I have gained in the workplace, and it has allowed me to progress into new roles which I otherwise may not have had the opportunity or ability to perform."

Our parental leave policy

We offer our employees an industry-leading parental leave package.

Our parental leave policy helps employees out when they're welcoming a new addition to their whānau, and eases the transition back to work. Modern families come in all forms, so our policy refers to primary and secondary carers rather than Mum or Dad.

Aotearoa and Australia-based primary carers on parental leave will receive their full base pay for 26 weeks, or 50% of their normal pay for 52 weeks. Secondary carers receive four weeks of paid leave.

We also offer phased return-to-work benefits. Primary carers can return to work on 80% of their hours but paid full time for six months. New parents also get five additional days of ‘New Parents Leave’ during their first year back at work.

Annual leave accumulated during parental leave is paid out at normal pay, and KiwiSaver or superannuation employer contributions continue to be paid.

“I can imagine having a second or third child is daunting also, but for the first, when you are experiencing so many ‘firsts’ such as new sleep patterns and teething, being able to have the opportunity to help during the times when your partner needs more support is amazing.”

Brad says the paid parental leave policy is extremely supportive and an advantage to working for Fletcher Construction.

“Fletcher Construction is still grounded in its family business origins and I have experienced that strongly since by son was born.  Management is really supportive and they are family people, so they get it, and understand. I appreciate that Fletcher Construction recognises that becoming a parent is a big milestone in anyone’s life and being able to support them through what can be difficult time financially for a lot of young parents makes the company an attractive and family-friendly place to work.”
- New Dad and project manager Brad Monaghan
